Successful In-Person 2024 Hill Days
While NCBA is hard at work representing our industry year-round, this past week NCBA members helped truly amplify our voice. Having our members travel to DC and personally share their concerns with congressional offices is a highlight for NCBA and an important part of our advocacy strategy.
With many legislative, judicial, and regulatory issues facing our practice area, our robust advocacy strategy is more important than ever. As an overarching theme our participants noted NCBA’s steadfast support for the Independence of the Practice of Law as outlined in Rep. Scott Fitzgerald’s (R-WI) bill H.R. 7947 and the integral role we play in the credit eco-system.
We emphasized the American Bar Association and the Conference of Chief Justices’ support for H.R. 7947 and were able to give real life examples where FDCPA regulation infringes on the court’s authority to license and discipline attorneys.
NCBA’s Hill Days not only included meetings with Members of Congress and their staff from both sides of the aisle and from both the House and Senate, but also a meeting with senior staff at the CFPB, including Jan Singelmann, Director Chopra’s Chief of Staff.
This event was a great success because of the in-person participation of over 25 NCBA member attorneys, staff and RFA lobbyists. NCBA was particularly encouraged to see participants from across the country meet their Members of Congress and staff, in some cases establishing a dialogue for the first time.
We would like to thank former NCBA President, Joann Needleman and Clark Hill for hosting our Hill Days reception on their roof top terrace and Kelly Knepper-Stephens and True ML for sponsoring the dinner on our first night in DC.
While our Hill Days have concluded, our advocacy efforts continue. NCBA’s influence and reputation continues to grow in DC as the go-to voice of our members, industry, and the creditors rights practice of law. To support our advocacy please consider contributions to the NCBA PAC and/or Advocacy Support Fund.
